As summer slips away and autumn falls upon us, you may be growing restless for the outdoors, a chance to breathe in the crisp, cool air and appreciate the spectacle of the changing leaves.

We’ve got just the thing for you.

This October 13th and 14th, Adams, Massachusetts will be celebrating the 46th Annual Mount Greylock Ramble and RambleFest, a lively celebration of fall.

About the Mount Greylock Ramble

A local favorite that also attracts visitors from thousands of miles away, this family-friendly, albeit invigorating, hike promotes both community and tourism.

Each Columbus Day, thousands of hikers of all ages and backgrounds ascend the 3,941-foot mountain, the tallest in the state. Greylock has a notable history for being inspirational to Herman Melville as he wrote Moby Dick and for striking up a friendship between Melville and another great American author, Nathaniel Hawthorne, during a family picnic.

Certificates of accomplishment are awarded to the first 2,000 hikers who reach the summit as well as to the youngest and oldest hiker and the hiker who travelled the farthest distance to attend. In 2012, the oldest person to reach the summit was 91; the youngest was 2.

Some participants flew from as far as Hawaii to enjoy the hike!

Useful Info About the Festival

Beginning October 13th, RambleFest’s first day features live bands, mouthwatering dishes from local vendors, apple cider, cider donuts, and apple pies.

The Mount Greylock Ramble falls on RambleFest’s 2nd day, October 14th, from 8am to 4pm. Refreshments and souvenirs are available for purchase and leashed pets are permitted. A free shuttle delivers hikers to the trailhead.

The festivities commence despite the weather, and are free to all.

RambleFest is a scenic 45-minute drive from The Rookwood Inn. We look forward to seeing you there!
